Soy IgE Test - More Information

This soy allergy test, also known as a soybean allergy blood test and soy IgE test, measures the soy IgE antibody blood level.

Soybeans are a type of bean that has wide range of industrial uses. Soybeans have many essential nutrients, protein and fat. Soybeans are used in animal feed, processed foods, oils and flour. Soybeans have also been considered a cholesterol-lowering food because of reported improvements in lipid panel markers from soy protein. Soy allergies are relatively common, especially in young children. When symptomatic, soybeans typically cause a rash or a mild skin swelling and, rarely, anaphylaxis.

This soy IgE test uses the ImmunoCAP® lab methodology. IgE blood test results are reported in kU/L and can be compared against the IgE antibody reference range provided by the lab to determine the IgE allergy class to soy.

This soy allergy blood test is less painful and has less side effects than historical allergy testing methods such as the skin prick test (SPT). In the skin prick, or scratch, test, serum containing soy components are injected into the skin. If you are allergic to soy, you will, unfortunately, have a mild allergic reaction and all of the symptoms that go with it. Instead, this allergy blood test can check for the soybean allergy without causing an allergic reaction, resulting in a much more comfortable lab testing experience through a simple blood draw.
