Beef IgE Test - More Information

The beef allergy test, also known as a beef IgE test, measures the beef IgE antibody blood level.

Beef has been a staple of human diets for a long time and is widely consumed worldwide. Typically consisting of skeletal muscle from cattle, beef is first cut into primal cuts before being separated into the commonly known forms such as steaks or ground beef. Beef can be aged or eaten immediately and can also be cooked or eaten raw. The beef allergy test is a component of the meat allergy test panel.

This beef IgE test uses the ImmunoCAP® lab methodology. Beef IgE antibody blood test results are reported in kU/L and can be compared against the IgE antibody reference range provided by the lab to determine the IgE allergy class to beef.

This beef allergy blood test is less painful and has less side effects than historical allergy testing methods such as the skin prick test (SPT). In the skin prick, or scratch, test, serum containing beef components are injected into the skin. If you are allergic to beef, you will, unfortunately, have a mild allergic reaction and all of the symptoms that go with it. Instead, this allergy blood test can check for an beef allergy without causing an allergic reaction, resulting in a much more comfortable lab testing experience through a simple blood draw.
