The PTT test checks the PTT blood level.
Test Code(s): 763
Other Test Name(s): Partial Thromboplastin Time, Activated
Test Type: Blood
Test Results: Typically 4 days
The PTT test, also known as a partial thromboplastin time test, PTT blood test, and PTT lab test, measures the PTT blood level.
PTT (partial thromboplastin time) is a lab test that helps evaluate blood clotting in a part of the clotting pathway known as the intrinsic, or contact activation, pathway. Sometimes known as activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), the PTT evaluates factors I, II, V, VIII, IX, X, XI and XII in the coagulation cascade. Elevated aPTT numbers may be seen in the setting of severe infections, hemophilia, heparin use, or the presence of abnormal antibodies generated by the immune system. The PTT test, along with the PT test, is a component of the INR test
To get a PTT test near you, simply order online and get tested at a local lab. Every standard Quest Diagnostics lab near you should be able to perform the PTT test as it uses standard equipment. As can be seen on the PTT sample report above, the lab result will be reported in seconds which can be compared against the PTT reference range provided by the lab.
